A round of applause for Scott Moe! He’s done it—Saskatchewan now holds the title for the lowest minimum wage in the country and some of the lowest real wages. Yay! What an achievement!
With so much wealth and possibility, it is an embarrassment that workers aren’t getting ahead in our province, all while inflation skyrockets and the cost of living goes through the roof. Meanwhile, the Sask Party continues to pat themselves on the back for their inaction. And let's not forget the jobs minister, who seems more interested in how many times he can sneak a firearm into the office than in creating good paying jobs.
Under Scott Moe's leadership, we've seen everything but fair wages. Utility rates, taxes, and fees keep climbing, yet our wages remain stagnant.
It’s almost like they’re competing for the “Least Supportive Government” award.
Stagnant Wages Growth: Saskatchewan experienced a 5.65% decrease in wages while provinces like Manitoba saw a significant 17.9% increase, for example.
Lowest Minimum Wage: At $14 per hour, Saskatchewan’s minimum wage is the lowest in Canada, further exacerbating the financial struggles of our workers.
Inflation Relief: Instead of taking meaningful steps to help residents, like slashing the gas tax or implementing other relief initiatives, the government stands idle while the financial strain on families continues to worsen.
Here’s a thought: instead of celebrating this dubious honor, let’s demand wages that reflect the real cost of living. It’s time for Scott Moe to:
Raise Real Wages and Minimum Wage: Ensure workers are paid fairly.
Tackle Affordability: Stop increasing costs for essential services.
Invest in Communities: Create jobs and support our public services.
